Let us try and understand averaging techniques..
In our day-to-day lives, we calculate average many times. This common average is actually one of the averaging techniques. We will study these techniques in detail with the help of an example.
Let us consider that we are comparing the marks of two classes in a school, class A and class B. Each class has 31 students.
If we compare the classes by adding up the marks of all 31 students and dividing by number of students, then it is MEAN.
If we compare the classes by the marks of the middle student, that is marks of 16th student, then it is MEDIAN.
If we compare the classes by comparing the number of students who have scored the highest marks, then it is MODE.
I hope at least you have got an idea of what are the types of averaging techniques. Will try to post more, for now thanks for reading.. :-)
